Ironically during the pouring rain, two massive rainwater retention tanks are delivered to the YMCA development site. Coupled with individual accommodation unit foundation markings the site is really taking shape.

10 May 2013 | Community Games Event - Shine a Light

On Friday 24th May we will be running our leg of the national Shine a Light relay. Community Games is a programme designed to stimulate community-based sporting and cultural activities following the London 2012 Olympics, and something that the YMCA is involved in nationally. One year on the community games is mirroring the torch relay route, through a Community Games Relay, to showcase some of the thousands of its activities taking place throughout the year.

Kick-starting on May 19 in Land’s End, Community Games will place a spotlight on each area of the Olympic and Paralympic torch relay route as it virtually passes through England during its 70-day long journey. Cheltenham YMCA have been allocated 24th May, Event number 6!

The event, taking place between 4 – 6pm, will highlight a community member who has had a positive impact through sport and community games and add them to the ‘hall of fame’ of shining lights across the country. Our event is open to the public at our Sports and Community Activity Centre off of Princess Elizabeth way in Cheltenham. We will be having a BBQ, face painting, sports tournaments in our mobile sports arena, a Zumba session, an interactive Judo demo, some live music, and a free open gym to the public. With loads going on and food available it would be great to see loads of people there supporting the event, showing the nation that we have a great community in Cheltenham, having a positive impact on all those around us.

Sleep easy is in full swing. After an evening of jazz, Zumba and games all the sleep easy participants finally settled down in their cardboard boxes.. Temperature is 3 degrees. The soup kitchen has been well used all evening. Over £5000 raised so far.

Join those who are going to brave the elements on Friday 1st March to raise funds for the new YMCA project for the homeless in Cheltenham. Experience a night in a cardboard box. Visit the soup kitchen. Raise your awareness and help raise the cash to fund the new project.
